I grew up in the divided city of Berlin, Germany but have spent the last 25 years in East Tennessee; these differing life experiences have contributed to my view of the world. I am an engineer and scientist who, over the course of his career, taught and conducted research at both the Technical University Berlin, Germany, and the University of Tennessee. Daily life provides us with many varying impressions which we each perceive differently, based on our individual life experience. Our “interpretation” of what we are seeing (or photographing) is based on the context in which we are seeing it. Just as exploring a different culture can lead to new insights about your own, the use of current computational photography techniques can allow transferring an image into a new interpretation of what we see that is different from the original one.
